Live online ELA classes, grade by grade

ELA (English Language Arts) means reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Our ELA classes are taught live on Zoom, not recorded, in groups of at most six, so every student reads, answers and gets feedback in every class. Each class meets 1 hour a week and costs $160 a month.

Grades 2–3 Lower Elementary

Phonics and sight words, sentence basics, early grammar and vocabulary, then paragraph writing and independent reading.

Grades 4–5 Upper Elementary

Reading for meaning and inference, grammar foundations, structured paragraphs, then multi-paragraph essays and the first steps of literary analysis.

Grades 6–8 Middle School

Grammar in context, close reading of complex texts, vocabulary in context, argumentative writing and rhetorical analysis, plus creative writing workshops.

Grades 8–10 Transition to High School

Structured essays (argumentative, analytical and personal), literary analysis and persuasive writing: the reading and writing high school English expects.

Questions parents ask

Are the ELA classes live or recorded?

Live. Every class is taught in real time on Zoom, with at most six students, so your child takes part rather than just watching.

How much do the classes cost?

$160 a month for one class that meets 1 hour a week. That includes the full FlyingMinds platform (normally $29 a month): the Learning Coach, lessons and practice between classes.

Which grades do you teach?

ELA classes run from grade 2 to grade 10, in four levels: Lower Elementary (grades 2–3), Upper Elementary (4–5), Middle School (6–8) and Transition to High School (8–10). Each level has several classes, so students are grouped by skill, not only by age.

Can my child practise between classes?

Yes. Every live-class family gets the full FlyingMinds platform included, with ELA practice: reading passages, grammar and vocabulary lessons your child can do at home.
