How the calculator and grid-ins work
A calculator is allowed on the entire Math section, so you never have to switch strategies partway through. A graphing calculator — Desmos — is built directly into the Bluebook app, and you may also bring your own approved calculator to the test center. The built-in Desmos calculator can graph equations, find intersections, and solve systems visually, which turns some multi-step problems into a few clicks once you know how to use it.
About 75% of the questions are multiple choice, and about 25% are student-produced responses — usually called grid-ins. For grid-ins there are no answer choices to eliminate: you work the problem and type your answer into the box. That format rewards accuracy and careful setup, because you can't reverse-engineer a value from the options.

1. Learn the built-in Desmos calculator
Because Desmos is available on every Math question, a few minutes learning to graph, find intersections, and solve systems with it can save real time on test day.
2. Fix your weakest content area first
Diagnose which of the four areas — Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving & Data Analysis, or Geometry & Trigonometry — costs you the most points, and target that first instead of studying everything evenly.
3. Practice grid-ins so the format isn't a surprise
Roughly a quarter of questions are student-produced responses. Practice typing your own answers so the grid-in format feels routine and you don't lose points to entry mistakes.
4. Review every miss with a reason
For each wrong answer, name the reason — a concept gap, a setup error, or a calculator slip — so an explanation turns the miss into a skill you keep.
